José Díaz de León Trio

The trio of the German-Mexican guitarist presents the debut album "Niña Piña" (recorded in CDMX, 2022) and new material. The compositions of the cosmopolitan musician (also known for his German projects Pangea Ultima, Antigua Quartett and Django Latino, among others) have a strong rhythmic base. Latin grooves, African grooves and odd-meters from India come together with accessible melodies and modern harmonies. Their compositions are open schemes, in which the musicians can integrate their ideas in a creative and spontaneous way, so they never sound the same.
Jazzthing magazine called the guitarist's work "a delightful redefinition of cross-cultural music". His guitar playing is influenced by rock, European manouche, Latin and modern jazz. The trio brings together the most outstanding musicians of Mexican jazz. With Vico Diaz on leona, the trio includes a traditional Mexican instrument in jazz with the purpose of enriching the style. Gabriel Puentes on drums is a true expert in modern jazz, whose musicality and creativity help to bring this musical fusion in an organic way. In addition to "Niña Piña", the ensemble also presents new compositions that approach traditional Mexican music with jazz.
